Taking pictures

I have been taking lots of photos lately.  And, while I really do want to get much, much better with my fancy D-90 Nikon, I still find the Instagram app on my iPhone endlessly fascinating.  I love the effects that it allows anyone to create.  I don’t know Photoshop or anything (yet!), but just look at what Instagram lets me create.  I put my Instagram photo first, and the actual photo below – pretty amazing, huh?

I spend lots of time trying to figure out how to photograph our world here.  I really want my photos to tell a story, engage you, and to help me see my own world in its endless changing beauty.

I have been so impressed with the photography on other blogs, I finally decided I have to get serious about this, and yesterday, I took my first two-hour private photography class with a fantastic teacher, Sybilla Herbrich of Sonoma Photoworks.  I have so much to learn, and I am excited to start!  My first assignments with Sybilla have to do with learning how to explore my passion for shallow depth of field, and learning how to see light.  I’ll keep you updated.
